Gabrielle Castonguay: Organizer Profile

Gabrielle lives in Montreal. Initiated in enamel on metal at the age of 11, Gabrielle studied the art of enameling rigorously and passionately until the age of 20. From her subsequent training in fine arts she developed a particular taste for Byzantine art and for the artistic works of antiquity. She finished her studies and relocated herself to Istanbul, Turkey, where for many years she was in constant contact with the vestiges of Constantinople and the Roman Empire. Upon her return to Montreal, in the desire to create her own works and spaces, she completed a program in interior design and worked as a designer for several distinguished architectural firms. Gabrielle combines her knowledge of both design and art, and has now been working for years full-time at enamel on metal, the essence of her true passion and the expression of her artistic engagement. Her research into experimental techniques in her art brings her occasionally to the San Francisco Bay area in California to exchange with other artists and to explore different methods in enameling and the treatment of metal. Her passage has permitted her to accumulate technical knowledge, striking references and diverse artistic and cultural experiences that permit her to be in constant evolution with her art.
